We are seeking families interested in hosting billet players for the 2024-25 season!

Billeting is an important part of youth hockey as it provides a unique opportunity for young players to live with a family in a new environment, develop lifelong relationships, and gain valuable life experiences. We are looking for families who are willing to open their homes and provide them with a safe and comfortable living environment and support them in their hockey journey.

If you are interested in being a billet family for the upcoming season, we invite you to fill out the form linked below that provides us with some basic information about your household. We will be setting up a meeting with all interested families to provide further details of the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Billets are families who host youth hockey players in their homes as a part of their family during the hockey season. The billet family provides housing and support to youth who have moved away from home to pursue hockey.

Hear about a billet family's first-hand experience in this article from USA Hockey.

You will need to fill out the form linked above, go through a background check, and meet with Kraken Youth Hockey Association staff before being accepted as a billet family.

Each billet family will receive money from the player's family to help offset the cost of food and other necessities. More details to come.

We expect billet families to treat the player as a member of their family. They must ensure the player gets to practices and games on time, provide nutritional meals, and stay in contact with Kraken Youth Hockey Association through the duration of the season.

You must provide a bedroom for the player. If you are hosting multiple players, they may share a room as long as they each have their own bed. Players should not be roomed with other members of the billet family.

Our hockey season runs August through March, with breaks for holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas. The player may stay through the school year (June).

"When we first considered hosting a billet [player], we thought through what we could provide a resident athlete. We are an active, busy and multi-generational family with close proximity to Kraken Community Iceplex. What we hadn’t considered was what the billet would provide our family, and that, as it turns out, is what would make us welcome another athlete into our home.

The seamless integration into our household, the mentorship for our three young hockey players, and the opportunity to learn about the paths of hockey through another athlete’s journey are invaluable. We are so happy to have been encouraged to participate in the billet program and look forward to the next time we are invited to host."
